Esteban Moreno is a dancer with great stage presence, as well as globally recognized teacher and choreographer. As he follows the tradition of Argentine tango, he is innovator exploring new possibilities in the art of tango. For the 20 years he has been dancing together with Claudia Codega his dance partner, they have been a great influence to the new generation of dancers and other master tango dancers. The simplicity and elegance of his style as well as his teaching skills, are among the greatest.

Esteban studied the tango with some of the best “Maestros” of Buenos Aires and also was among those who facilitated the “renewal” of Argentine tango, creating its current popularity around the world. His exquisite dance encompass the essence and heritage of the “tango salon” and the evolution and the fantasy of “tango nuevo”. He interprets the styles across the board, with an analysis of the possibilities of movement and communication, the logic of tango improvisation.

With Claudia They have been traveling around the world since 1992 when they were invited to represent Argentina at the World Expo in Seville. Currently Esteban is based in Lyon where he created with Claudia the Company Unión Tanguera in 2002, which brought life to the shows, Efecto Tango (2005), Tango Vivo (2006-2008) and White Night (2010). He also continuously tour other cities around the world and return regularly to Buenos Aires where with Claudia they dance and teach workshops in festivals such as Cosmotango or World Tango Festival.

His extensive knowledge of the tango, the research on techniques, studies of movement, music and theater have kept him popular guest choreographers for various shows and events, as well as greatly sought after teachers for his methodical and artistic approach to tango. For the 20 years Esteban & Claudia have been dancing together, they have been a big influence to the tango community around the world.

Moreno graduated from the National College of Technical Education with a degree in electronics and began a career in graphic design. Moreno discovered tango in 1988 through courses at the Centro Cultural Gral San Martín and at Centro Cultural F. Lacamera. His immersion in tango led to work with Ballet Ciclos, which is where he met Claudia Codega his dance partner since 1990. Moreno is currently based in Lyon where he works teaching and developing projects with Union Tanguera’s important partner Tango de Soie.
Since representing Argentina in the Universal Exposition of Seville in 1992, where they worked with renowned Argentinean choreographer Oscar Araiz (1992) and with ballet dancer Julio Bocca. Codega and Moreno have been invited to the most important tango festivals around the world. Prior to founding Cia. Unión Tanguera, Codega and Moreno created Con este tango (1995); Locura Tanguera (1996); turn in Holland with Tango Tango; El arte del tango with the Het National Ballet; and the opera Maria de Buenos Aires; and they performed in the Edinburg Festival with Destino tango. Codega and Moreno are part of a generation that has been credited with recovering tango as a social dance. They have been integral in creating the conditions for its current popularity. They are students of the greatest tango Maestros of the 80’s and 90’s, such as Antonio Todaro, Pepito Avellaneda, Roberto Grassi, Alberto Villarraso, and Lampazo Vazquez, with whom they share a common love for traditional tango. Codega and Moreno have created a style that serves as a reference for the new generation of tango dancers and teachers. Their dance is grave, intense, and dynamic; a synthesis of styles reinterpreted, in which fantasy and imagination are joined, inside the construct of improvised tango. Claudia and Esteban continue their formative, artistic, and pedagogical work of tango teaching, in workshops and shows and through a learning method in a DVD format.


Unión Tanguera, founded in 2002, is a contemporary tango company based in Buenos Aires, Argentina and in Lyon, France. This Argentinean-French company’s works are created and directed by Co-Artistic Directors Claudia Codega and Esteban Moreno and utilize the music and dance of traditional tango as the foundation for their creative process. With deep respect to tradition and legacy, the company seeks to reformulate the theatrical expression of tango by incorporating elements of contemporary dance while respecting the purity of the traditional social dance that is tango.

Cia. Unión Tanguera is a non-profit organization that has brought together artists, producers, and cultural institutions to contribute to the development, promotion, and preservation of the art form of tango. The company believes tango is the art of combining music, dance, and poetry, in a unique and profound way. Cia. Unión Tanguera’s mission is to create the opportunity for tango’s development by bringing the dance to a worldwide audience through the creation and presentation of new performance work; offering programs for learning and discovering; professional and amateur instruction; and by sharing it with the next generation. The company is activiely engaged in recovering traditional tango, while at the same time embracing popular practices.

Prior to Nuit Blanche, Cia. Unión Tanguera created and toured Efecto Tango (2005), Tango Vivo (2006), and Buenos Aires hora 0 (2008). The company has been supported by Tango de Soie, a school and home for tango in Lyon, since 2006 and has formed many important partnerships with various funding institutions in France, including La Maison de la Danse de Lyon (Unión Tanguera’s performances Nuit Blanche, Efecto Tango, and Tango Vivo were co-produced with Lyon’s Maison de la Danse. Since its beginning, Cia. Unión Tanguera has worked with artists Gonzalo Cordova in stage design and lighting and Guillermo Monteleone in photography. The company is supported by Ville de Lyon (Lyon City, France) and collaborates with Tango De Soie (Lyon, France) and TangoVia Buenos Aires and Groupement d’Employeurs Spectacle (Lyon-France). In several projects the company has worked with Orchestra El Arranque, Ensemble Hyperion, Cuarteto Los cosos de al lao, Quartet Lupanar, and dancers in Buenos Aires and Europe.
